Phoenix Karate Teacher, teaches the Karate Kids about eating Fresh Fruits and Vegetables that are in Season

Fresh Fruits and Vegetables, by Season

This has been bugging me for months….

I want to eat healthy, and cook tasty meals by choosing fruits and vegetables that are in season.

In these tight economic times, it's hard to find a bargain, especially on fresh vegetables and fruit. But if you buy them in season, you can save money.

I just have one problem….

I don't know what's 'in season.' I know that apples are harvested in the fall, and I know that we bought pumpkins the week before Halloween. Beyond that, though, I'm kind of clueless.

So I searched Google and found a couple of lists (See below) I don’t know who created it and why we are not promoting it. (Talking about Child Obesity and Over weight Children).

Have you ever wondered which fruits and vegetables are in season during which months of the year?

January
Oranges, grapefruit, tangerines, tangelos, lemons, papayas, cabbages: red, white and green; leeks, broccoli, cauliflower

February
Oranges, tangelos, grapefruit, lemons, papayas, broccoli, cauliflower

March
Pineapples, mangoes, broccoli, lettuce

April
Pineapples, mangoes, zucchini, rhubarb, artichokes, asparagus, spring peas, broccoli, lettuce

May
Cherries, pineapples, apricots, okra, zucchini, rhubarb, artichokes, asparagus, spring peas, broccoli, lettuce

June
Watermelon, strawberries, cantaloupe, cherries, blueberries, peaches, apricots, corn, lettuce

July
Watermelon, strawberries, cantaloupe, blueberries, peaches, apricots, kiwi, raspberries, plums, mangos, cucumbers, tomatoes, summer squash, corn, green beans, lettuce

August
Watermelon, strawberries, cantaloupe, blueberries, peaches, apricots, kiwi, raspberries, plums, cucumbers, corn, eggplant, tomatoes, summer squash, green beans, lettuce

September
Grapes, pomegranates, persimmons, eggplants, pumpkins, tomatoes, spinach, lettuce

October
Cranberries, apples, pomegranates, grapes, sweet potatoes, pumpkins, winter squash, broccoli, spinach, lettuce

November
Cranberries, oranges, tangerines, pears, pomegranates, persimmons, pumpkins, winter squash, sweet potatoes, broccoli, mushrooms, spinach

December
Pears, oranges, tangelos, grape fruit, tangerines, papayas, pomegranates, sweet potatoes, mushrooms, broccoli, cauliflower

Always a Good Deal
Bananas, potatoes and celery seem to always be in season. For bananas, at least, I think it's because they have to be shipped into just about everywhere. There are a few holes in this list, admittedly. I didn't find a clear season for carrots, parsnips and a few other vegetables and fruits.

How is this list helpful?
Knowing which fruits and vegetables are in season gives you a clue as to what produce is likely to be on sale at given times in the year. At the very least, it can help you plan your shopping list — and skip the expensive, out of season items. It can give you ideas for menu planning, as well: there's a reason that holiday favorites are popular at certain times of the year.

This is great to know! If you ever bought something out of season, it usually tastes bitter. Then you have to throw it away. That gets real expensive! Thanks for the list...it will help.
