Martial Arts - Making it a Reality

I was teaching Kata to a young student yesterday…  It is like his third time presenting these forms to me for his next belt promotion.  I said I know you are getting straight A’s on your report card (I could tell) by the Academic Achiever and Honor Roll patches he had proudly displayed on his karate uniform…  I said do you know that all the words to the Kata’s are on the website?  I then ask him to teach me the Kata.  I stood there until he told me the next moves (Stances and Techniques) What was amazing is that he knew them all but just a couple which of course I corrected for him…

I said your home work is to write down in your own words all the moves of Kata (Which is what I had to do back in the old day when I transcribed them from an old VCR tape) and that way you can get your brain to tell your feet what to do…   He looked at me and said, “You have got to see it mentally... before you can make it reality...
