Take should out of your Vocabulary
By Bonnie Moehle – Self Development Coach - Phoenix
Many years ago I was talking to a speaker I admired and he asked me what kind of work I do. I told him that I was a Life Coach and that I primarily worked with private clients, but that I believed I should be speaking more. He looked at me and said “you should??”
At that instant a light bulb went on. I knew exactly what he was implying; that by thinking that I should be anywhere other than where I am right now, I was actually getting in the way of my own growth and opportunity.
Should is a word we use when we believe that we are not enough. I needed to take should out of my vocabulary. Now this may seem counterintuitive, as so many of us have been programmed to believe that we have to focus on what is wrong or what is lacking in order to grow or achieve. But, this belief system is false, because what we focus on creates our perceptions, behaviors and experiences, and focusing on what is lacking does not motivate us to move forward. Instead it lowers our energy, robs us of our confidence and holds us back.
When we take should out of our vocabulary (and our thinking), we fully marvel in the moment. We completely enjoy where we are now rather than waiting for something better to happen so that some day we can be happy. Many fear this because they feel that it will prevent them from moving forward – it will hold them stuck. This is a misconception. When we remove should and enjoy (or at least accept) our present situation, we are filled with energy. We become more proactive, more productive and more creative. We draw to us greater opportunity and life flows effortlessly. The Law of Attraction states that we attract exactly what corresponds to our internal state. What are you feeling like when you are thinking you should?
